If you are not on Substack notes (the happening place to be), you may not have realized that last week I was on “Spring Break” with my kiddos. Technically, it was their spring break, and that means work shifts from having the time to write to having zero time to myself. Somehow, as the children are getting older and more independent, I have less time to write than I did when they were toddlers and I thought they would require more supervision. Boy, was I wrong?
So, last week we had a staycation because finances are still tight and apparently (sigh) getting tighter because of certain things going on. Which was fine, I had ideas to do fun stuff with family until… the Midwest weather did no play nicely either.
So, since I’m coming off of a vacation…
Get to know the Author
I was never a huge fan of the natural history museum here (The Field Museum). I always loved the Museum of Science and Industry, but my kids had other ideas. Mostly because of dinosaurs.
At least with all the crazy weather last week, we got in a museum trip. I love that they love learning. And even though we mostly see the same exhibits, they have a good time.

I also replaced my 3d printer with a shiny new Bambu Labs A1 just before spring break. I’ve been printing like CRAZY! Gifts, toys for the kids, fidgets… I currently have some big projects going, but here’s a sampling of what I have printed so far.

Honestly, there was more I have made but I couldn’t find all the items because the kids took them or I gave them away already.
I had really wanted to get back to nature, do a little hiking. Unfortunately, cold weather and neurodivergencies in the house did not mesh. So, no hiking for us.
But… I GOT TONS OF READING IN! The spring season of anime just started and I knew Wind Breaker season 2 was coming… so I read all 10 manga out (some was a reread, 7-10 I did not have before and might have picked up because I needed to keep going).
This led to the inevitable fanfic writing.
And this weekend, when all was said and done… I got some painting time in. Check out the quick watercolor book tour (not all done this weekend and some are still WIPs).
Well, there you go. Some new stuff about me that maybe you didn’t know.
Also,
